Since the release of her debut EP Don’t Give It Up back in 2015, soulful songstress WILSN has been steadily climbing the ranks of the global music scene. It’s not surprising, given her powerful vocal talent and serious songwriting chops.
In 2020, she’s lending her prowess to fellow homegrown musical legends The Teskey Brothers, supporting them on their European tour. But before any of that kicks off, she’s joined us live at Nura HQ for a stripped back rendition of her song ‘Sweet Thing’. With her stellar vocals in the spotlight and James Bowers on the keys, this had the whole room absolutely mesmerised. Take a look and just try not to fall in love.
Introverted, pisces, chocolate loving, singer/songwriter who grew up on soul music and RnB.
I really love both! I love performing live because I get to feed off the energy of the musicians in my band and also feel a physical connection with the audience. But I also love recording because it allows me to indulge my slight ocd and re-do my vocal till I’m 100% happy with it!
Some of my biggest musical inspirations are Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Lauryn Hill, Donny Hathaway. Lianne La Havas, Whitney Houston, and John Legend.
I performed a stripped back version of my latest track “Sweet Thing”, with James Bowers on keys. I wrote it in L.A and finished writing/recording it in Melbourne with Stephen Mowat and Nicholas Lam. The song serves as a reminder to love yourself, stop comparing yourself to others and just do you! I struggle with this big time, so it’s as much a reminder to me as it is to anyone out there listening.
It was pretty crazy! I could hear things in songs I’ve listened to for years but couldn’t hear before. The sound was so clear. It was easily the best headphone experience I’ve ever had!
